With better diagnosis of sight problems, more than 6 out of 10 French people already wear corrective lenses. Half a million new wearers of glasses arrive each year. The glasses market is one of the most thriving. And it goes beyond simple need: once considered “old-fashioned”, glasses are now in. All the major brands offer their own frames. They dress a face, they give it attitude: seriousness or frivolity. In 10 years opticians have taken over the city centres and it’s no longer rare to see a sign every 100 metres. Opticians are known to be among the most well paid of shopkeepers. This documentary investigates a business that is unfortunately ripe for fraud.
