Wingsuit: defying death | M6 | 66 minutes

This summer, 5 Wingsuit enthusiasts were killed in the Alps, three of them in the same week. Wingsuit is an extreme sport that consists of falling from a cliff or a plane wearing a giant suit in the form of a wing. Flight time can last up to two minutes during which a speed of 200kmh can be attained. The sport, which is considered a high-speed sport, has become popular over the last two years. In France there are thought to be some 300 practising the discipline, which is still very poorly supervised. The Wingsuit also claimed the life of Mark Sutton, the James Bond parachutist from the 2012 London Olympics. The stuntman lost his life while competing at Chamonix this summer. Erich Beaud, one of the pioneers of the discipline, considers that mounted cameras have harmed the sport: “It’s all about who can get the most spectacular images; some people confuse video games and reality, except that with the Wingsuit there is no second chance!” Who are the people hooked on the sport? How far will they go to experience a two-minute adrenaline rush?
