The Marine Firefighters of Marseilles – N°11 : on all fronts | Le Bataillon des Marins Pompiers de Marseille | RMC Découverte

“The men of the brigade are trained in every emergency. But there’s never a zero risk situation for the marine firefighters…”

The firefighters train all year long at the CETIS, the center for training in fire extinction and survival techniques. It is here, a center that is unique in Europe, that the marine firefighters are trained in rescue techniques in the most extreme conditions…  Because the CETIS is equipped with simulators that can recreate the real conditions of certain types of fire.

The one that a group of firefighters will discover this morning is in a training pool and goes by the sweet-sounding name of Helicopter Crash Simulator.

The firefighters will be placed in real danger…

Traffic in Marseille is especially dependent on the network of roads: high-speed highways, wide classical roads and large boulevards that all lead into the center of the city. This unique web of roads increases the risk of every possible sort of road accident. Drivers go too fast, they run red lights and overtake dangerously. At night, accidents in Marseille are often very serious. One out of three fatal accidents in Marseille is due to excess speed.

Tonight, the Saint Pierre brigade will do all it can to save the life of a driver who ran into a wall and had a heart attack.

The marine firefighters of Pointe Rouge are the guardian angels of the Marseille shoreline. With their lifeboat, the “Bonne Mère de Marseille”, they make an emergency attendance to an empty boat adrift that forebodes tragedy.

A young girl has gone through the hatch of a light shaft and fallen several meters. The firefighters from Saint Pierre will do their best to find an access to reach her and get her to the ER as quickly as possible…
