The Marc Féral Case: for better or for worse | Enquêtes criminelles | W9

On Wednesday, August 18 2010, at the end of the morning, garage owner, Jean-Paul Chardenoux, is meeting Marc Féral, who is coming to pick up his car. Then, as the garage owner walks towards him, Marc Féral aims a rifle and fires. Jean-Paul Chardenoux falls with the first shot. His wife, who is a witness to the tragedy, rushes forward, but it’s already too late. Jean-Paul is lying in a pool of blood. Why did Marc Féral shoot down Jean-Paul Chardenoux like a dog? The victim’s wife is stunned, especially as Jean-Paul and Marc were best friends. The investigation opens and very quickly points towards a crime of passion. Sure enough, over the last few months, the two friends had become rivals. The cause of their rivalry, a woman. Her name is Martine Cayron. She was the mistress of Jean-Paul, the victim, but also the ex-girlfriend of Marc, the man who fired the shot. Marc couldn’t bear the thought of his ex being with his best friend. The investigation also reveals that Marc Féral was trying at all costs to win back the woman who’d left him. However, although this case started out like a bedroom farce, its tragic outcome leads investigators to something wider than a simple story of jealousy. Marc Féral will spring a surprise. He denies all intention of killing and he even goes further. According to him it was Martine Cayron who pushed him into it. So, did Marc Féral act alone or was he the gunman for his ex? Emotional intrigue, anonymous letters and staggering revelations… these are the ingredients of this unusual case, which has yet to see many more twists and turns.
