The hostages of Bagdad | France 3 | Docu-fiction

It’s the end of August 2004, and every eye is turned on Najaf, holy city of the Iraqi Shiites. For two weeks it has been the stage for violent confrontations between American forces and the militia of the young Shiite leader, Moqutada Al-Sadr.Georges Malbrunot and Christian Chesnot try to get there. They are independent reporters, who have worked in the region for ten years for french media. On the road to Nadjaf, their destiny is changed. Their story becomes an affair of state. This was the beginning of the Baghdad hostages affair.Using a mix of fiction sequences, archive footage and interviews, this drama-documentary tells the full story of the two hostage reporters face to face with their kidnappers in close confinement – the first on the Baghdad hostages. At an exciting and informative pace, the remainder of the film is filled with totally exclusive footage (film of the two hostage’s return to France in the army Hercules 130, then in the government aircraft, never before seen images and contributions from the main participants in the affair (the two hostages, naturally, with intimate confessions, their families, employers, friends, politicians, representatives of the Muslim community, etc.)The Hostages of Baghdad”, is both the story of a profession that has paid a very heavy price for reporting the Iraq war and the story of two men who brushed with death simply for the right to information.”
