ONE SUMMER TO FIX UP MY HOUSE | M6 | Zone Interdite

Summer is the favorite season for the French to practice their DIY! The opportunity to add another room, refresh the decoration or build a house…

Ludovic and his wife decided to expand for the arrival of their first child. They’ve just bought an old building that Ludovic will have to renovate from top to bottom. The young man wants to do it all by himself: a question of budget and ambition. However, a baby is about to arrive and the house still isn’t ready. How will the young man manage to house his family?

With five brothers and a carpenter father, Sophie has been handling a drill ever since she could pick one up. She has set herself a challenge: within six months, build a ‘tiny house’, a small house on wheels, without planning permission, that will enable her to take to the roads as free as the wind. An import from the United States, the phenomenon is increasingly the rage. But a tiny house has to be built from A to Z: from fitting the first wheel… up to the roof, by way of the coating and the plumbing. Sophie wants to be finished by her birthday in order to start a new life.

But when you don’t have the least idea about DIY, it’s not that easy to make the right choices of materials! Muriel has just bought an apartment in the Paris suburbs. With help from her friends, she decided to give it a make-over. This young woman has never done any DIY, not so much as hold a hammer. So, knocking down walls or laying floors will prove to be much more than a simple adventure for her!

Finally, for DIY-ers in the countryside, living far from the big shopping centers, the Chaminas family comes to them. For three generations, the family has been running a fleet of ten truck-stores crisscrossing the roads of southern France all year round. Aboard are hundreds of tools and materials. And selling them is Eric, a driver-vendor with an inexhaustible gift of the gab and a smooth line in sales talk. Each month, the residents of small villages can’t wait for the visit from their favorite peddler!

Major construction, a lick of paint, nervous breakdown, but also the satisfaction of a job well done… Zone Interdite takes you through the ups and downs of the summertime DIY-ers.
