Israel – Lebanon : at the heart of the war | M6 | Enquête Exclusive

In July 2006, the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers unleashed an Israeli campaign of massive bombardment against Hezbollah in south Lebanon and Beirut. The Israeli government was determined to prevent the Shia militia from continuing to fire rockets into northern Israel. Despite the armored vehicles, the drones and devastating artillery, young soldiers of 20 found themselves trapped by Hezbollah’s latest generation anti-tank missiles. Over several weeks—and despite a ban by Hezbollah—we also traveled and filmed around south Lebanon. A Kounine, as we tried to reach the frontier, our team was spotted by an Israeli drone and was also caught up in the bombing. In 34 days, 119 Israeli soldiers died in combat. The Israeli army claims to have killed nearly 300 Hezbollah militia. The Party of God claims it only lost 61 fighters. 1200 Lebanese civilians are dead and 3700 wounded. Tsahal lost on the battlefield. How did the inhabitants of northern Israel live through the bombardments? Was the Israeli response disproportionate? How did the Tsahal soldiers view this war? We accompanied the men of Tsahal’s 603 combat battalion, a unit of armored shock troops that clears the way for the tanks. In the armored Puma commanding the column were Royi, 27, company captain, Avi, 21, machine gunner and Tom, 20, nurse. One of them was wounded on camera and owes his life solely to the speed of the helicopter rescue. Portrait of a company under fire from an invisible enemy.
