HEATWAVE | M6 | 66 minutes

This week France is suffering a heatwave that is exceptional for the month of June. There’s a rush to specialist stores and major retailers for fans or AC units. Some stores have recorded a rise of 600% in sales compared to the same period last year. Heatwaves have increased over recent years and yet have the lessons of the great crisis of 2003, which cost the lives of 15,000 people, been learned? As unprecedented temperatures are announced for the month of June, workers continue to operate outside. Between the sun and the searing asphalt, how are they coping with their day, with protective helmets and vests?  Up to what temperature are employees required to work?  And under what conditions? In retirement homes, the residents can no longer go outside. As the first to be affected by a heatwave, what measures have been put in place to protect them? And humans aren’t the only victims of this heat… there are animals too. In a zoo in Nantes, keepers are taking all measures for the well-being of their charges. Blood ice pops, cooling clay masks… everything must be imagined to avoid animals suffering heat stroke. This week, it will have been as hot in France as in Dubai. How did the country prepare for this heatwave?
