The marine-firefighters of Marseille are amongst the elite firefighting forces in France: with more than 120 interventions per 1000 population they hold the French record for attendances. Unlike the majority of their colleagues in the hexagon, they are also soldiers. Trained for every eventuality, these 2400 men and women carry out 310 interventions per day. In Marseille, the threats facing the marine-firefighters are mainly related to danger on the roads and high-risk, unsafe accommodation.
