Every spring, magazines offer new diets and the gyms enjoy record levels of attendance! Men, as well as women, are increasingly concerned about their figures: 40% of French people have tried to lose weight at one time or another. As a result, new slimming methods appear every year. But what are they really worth? Are they harmful to health? How many pounds can you hope to lose? We accompanied Elhame, Steeve and Nathalie on their hunt for pounds for nearly a year. They follow different methods, but meet with the same problems: resisting the temptation of a steak and fries, remaining motivated over the long term. Some are monitored by a coach, others take inspiration from methods that are sometimes questionable. Doctor Jean-Michel Lecerf, an expert nutritionist and endocrinologist, followed their efforts. He gives us his analysis. We also visit the United States. Over there, some people resort to extreme measures in order to slim. Former soldiers use whistles and insults to run boot camps”: heavy-duty physical training sessions. The “KE” diet is also the rage: those going on it feed themselves only on protein solutions taken via a nasal tube. There seems no end to the frenzy for the perfect body. Yet, it’s by adopting a gentler approach based on a healthy diet, sport and close Internet monitoring that a French woman, Valérie Orsoni, is making a fortune. And her menu seems to be attracting American stars such as Mariah Carey.”
