Behind Venise Carnaval’s scenes | France 5 | Camera 5

Each year, starting from the end of January and during 12 days, Venice, the city of lovers, becomes the largest scene in the world. Dozens of thousands of passionates, arriving from the entire world, come to show off their costume and to celebrate the carnival in the streets as well as in magnificent private palaces. Camera 5 slipped behind the scenes of this colourful event. For Brigitte and Philippe, two Vosgean, the carnival begins several months in advance. They have worked for one year to make their new disguise, which will allow them, perhaps, to have their picture taken and to appear in the specialized magazines of the whole world or, better still, on the Venice postcards. For many of the “in costume”, the Carnival of Venice is the occasion to have fun by living the life of somebody else, the life of a loan mysterious character. Camera 5 also takes us along the heart of the secret city, in the luxurious private palaces, where are given the most magnificent and the most eccentric celebrations, but also in the fire houses of the city or in the police stations, which are under maximum alert for all the period of the carnival. The Carnival of Venice, as you never saw it.
